Eating Healthy While You Travel. How to Cook in your Hotel Room

“Road food” is my least favorite part of traveling.  The unknows associated can be maddening & painful … What am I eating? How is my body going to react… on-and-on!  I recently took a Mom-break and flew to Miami, FL for 3 nights & 4 days of me-myself-and-I time for sunshine and R&R.  In doing so, I packed similarly to how I do for our travel hockey road trips with a few adjustments due to flying.  I was able to prepare 95% of the food I ate on the trip which helps tremendously with how I feel, sleep and live!

Examples of my meals:
I personally maintain a diet that is gluten free, dairy free and I manage my histamine intolerance issues. Obviously you can pack and plan according to your dietary needs!

BREAKFAST: Coffee with collagen protein & oatmeal with pecans + blueberries
LUNCH: chicken breast, broccoli, raw carrots + sugar snap peas with hummus
DINNER: mixed greens with olive oil, lemon & salt, filet, stir fry vegetables with rice
SNACK: Mary’s Gone Crazy Crackers

 What I brought from home:

  • Electric skillet (purchased at Walmart)

  • Electric tea kettle (bought on Amazon)

  • Knife, silverware & cooking utensils

  • Be Free Water Filtration System (purchased at REI)

  • Paper plates

  • Baggies (for food storage)

  • Four Sigamatic coffee + collagen protein

  • My favorite Tervis coffee stainless tumbler

  • Oatmeal & pecans (Trader Joes has individual oatmeal pouches without sugar)

  • Frozen local raw grass-fed beef filet & chicken breasts*

  • 2 bags of frozen Trader Joes rice*

  • *I froze the meat overnight & packed in my checked bag inside one of Ivan’s insulated snack/lunch bags. It was still frozen when I arrived (2.5 hour flight + drive time)

What I ordered from Shipt ($55.34 including tip)
Shipt is an app that you pay a yearly fee for. When traveling you simply enter your location address and it populates the local stores that are available to have goods delivered from. Simply tip your shopper! Shipt is $99/annually. For $10 OFF click here.
